Ridiculously fast for a low priced 1TB card. Excellent value.
5 Stars
Ridiculously fast for a low priced 1TB card. Excellent value.
Over the past several years I've become a fan of SP products. They tend to offer really good performance for the price. Reliability has never been a problem with over 10 different SP products I've purchased over the years. This card really surprised me - in a GOOD way. Using a cheap Kingston UHS-II card reader plugged into my USB3 port on my laptop I verified 150MB/sec write and 160MB/sec read speeds. Although the card does not have the additional UHS-II pins it shows that the performance limits are sometimes due to hardware, like the card reader, or the USB port. I've attached the ATTO graph showing the write/read performance. The card is only a couple of dollars more than the A1 card but the IOPS are much better. I've included the ASSD IOPS from a recently purchased SP 512GB micro SDXC U3 A1 card so you can see that the A2 does offer significantly more IOPS at a very very slight increase in cost.Actual capacity is 991.9GB decimal or 923GB binary. Close enough.I do wish storage manufacturers would advertise the binary capacity of their drives instead of the decimal value. Most negative reviews of drives complain about the capacity being less than advertised and that is why. It is actually as stated almost all the time except people aren't aware of how it is arrived at. It IS a bigger number and that's why they do it.I am super impressed with this card and based on my history with SP products, look forward to a long life with this card. If things change, I will update this review. The 5 Yr. warranty is just frosting on the cake. I don't know how SP's service is as I've never needed to use so we'll see. In the meanwhile I highly recommend this card. It is fabulous value compared to the competition and the performance is stellar!!!***Update***Although this card is capable of much higher read and write rates than specified, the card will overheat and freeze if you write to it using a UHS-II card reader. This enables much higher write speeds of about 150MB/sec. After re-formatting it and using a conventional USB3 card reader it resumed working fine but at about 30MB/sec (still faster than spec......). At this speed the card just got comfortably warm - not hot.

This is a great drive. A word of warning for ROG ally users. You may experience mounting and unmounting issues and sometimes total failures. This is no sd cards fault it is a design flaw in the handheld . There is a hot spot right by the card and controller that is bricking many cards. However.. this card seems to tough it out for me. May be a lucky lottery card but hey it's my experience

Flash memory designers choose what to optimize at the expense of other parameters, including cost.
Crystal Disk Mark, etc give good, but incomplete info which is why I use ATTO.
It allows the user to select the best storage device for their application.

I've been using the blue EVO Select 512 GB MicroSDXC A2 cards in my phones for video recording up to 8K, and Hi Res music storage but both need LOTS of storage.
Overall very good performance and good value.
This SP card is ~-5% writes above 64K I/O size & ~-10% reads 128K-64MB.
It also has slower IO rates, especially at higher IO sizes.

IO sizes are usually selected by the OS and/or hardware.

This card came formatted exFAT, 512KB clusters which is what my LG V50 & V60 format the card to after I formatted it to RAW. SD association standard as well. Phones are rooted as I despise Gargoyles skewed search results, invasion of privacy and fascist tactics (EUs words, not mine)

The only MicroSDXC card I have used that is faster than the SP and Evo Select is the Sandisk Extreme Pro which is only marginally so.

Give these cards a try. I believe you will be happy unless you are looking to record 8K @60 Hz or above.

Images are Samsung Evo Select 512GB, MB/s, IO/sec Silicon Power 1TB, MB/S, IO/sec
Last image shows what happens when a 256GB Evo Select card is formatted to 512KB cluster size.
128KB is correct. Use your phone or SD Formatter Windblows app to get the right size.

I was a communications, design and senior systems engineer for large scale computing systems for 25 years before retiring and understand storage systems and what the tests show.

These cards are "Assembled" in Taiwan where a friend is a SOC design engineer and says SP is a solid company. SP also acquired facilities in Bend, Oregon in 2019 for hi power semiconductor devices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome little (BIG) card
Reviewed in Canada on March 18, 2024
I was specifically looking for a 1TB A2 U3 (beep boop) for my steam deck and I'm quite happy with this one. Also happy about the pricing - VERY happy. Silicon Power usually does much cheaper prices and I'm always concerned with what quality I'm actually getting, but so far what I got is great. I'm not expecting it to suddenly fail and break down, but if it does at some point at least there's a 5 year warranty. Considering usage I'm not that worried as all I have on it would be game installations and not anything very important.

I haven't run any benchmarks on it because I feel like it would be pretty pointless for my case, but speed wise it has given me no problems at all. You can usually tell with SD cards if they're abominably slow or garbage. How could this card be any better? If there was a 1.5 TB version!
